Ryan Reynolds has become the new face of Aviation Gin, joining the ranks of ridiculously successful, annoyingly handsome male celebrities who have dabbled in the booze industry. Like George Clooney with Casamigos tequila and Drake with Virginia Black Whiskey before him, Reynolds acquired part ownership in the company, which Aviation announced today.
Reynolds decided to make an investment right after tasting Aviation's gin for the first time, according to a statement. "If you think all gin tastes the same, you'd be mistaken," he said. "Aviation is in a completely different league and I couldn't be prouder to be a part of the company."
Aviation is produced at House Spirits Distillery, a craft distillery in Portland, Oregon. The gin is a balanced blend of botanicals — including cardamom, coriander, French lavender, anise seed, sarsaparilla, juniper, and two kinds of orange peel — with a more subtle juniper flavor. It is part of a "softer and smoother" movement of American-style gin, compared to sharper London dry gin. It is also very highly rated by Wine Enthusiast.
Reynolds' involvement in the company will be limited to photo ops and drinking gin, he joked in an automated email. "I don't know whose idea it was to allow me into the gin business, but I can assure you, there are smarter, more reasonable people in charge," he promised.
As for the actual enjoying of it, Reynolds takes his gin on the rocks. But a tart gin cocktail does the trick just as well. Or, hell, why not an Aviation?
