One year after going public with their split, Flip or Flop stars Christina and Tarek El Moussa have finalized their divorce, a rep for Christina confirmed to Entertainment Tonight on Monday.
And although the two have continued to collaborate on season 7 of their successful HGTV show, cryptic Instagram posts by the exes suggest there may be some tension underneath the surface.
Tarek posted a photo on his Instagram January 22 with a quote about the importance of distancing yourself from negative people.
"I saw this on my feed and thought 'Wow, what a true statement,' Tarek wrote. "The best way to take care of others is to first take care of yourself!!"
Later in the day, Christina took a slightly more positive tack, writing: "I want to thank my family, friends, and supporters for all the love and kind words the past few years. Officially ready for the next chapter. Life's too short to tolerate negativity…"
The pair announced their separation in December 2016 amid reports of a domestic altercation at their home involving a "possibly suicidal male with a gun" earlier that year. The couple shares join custody of their two children, 7-year-old Taylor and 2-year-old Brayden; in January 2017 Tarek requested spousal support from Christina. In response, Christina asked for spousal support and that her ex-husband pay her legal fees.
"It's part of the process," Tarek told ET. "Eventually we're going to get divorced, continue to work together [on Flip or Flop], co-parent, live great lives."
In the months following their separation, the HGTV stars have both been pretty open about their love lives. Most recently Christina has been linked to British TV host Ant Anstead. Tarek, for his part, says he's "out there in the dating world," and is focusing on his new YouTube series, The Pick Me Up Project.
When it comes to their own relationship, the couple has sent mixed signals in interviews and on social media about where things stand. "We're actually getting along really, really well right now," Christina told Entertainment Tonight in March, saying they have achieved that by "letting go of past resentment, living in the future and remembering that kids are the priority."
On screen, things seem just fine: Tarek and Christina continued to film new episodes of Flip or Flop throughout the spring and summer. Reruns of those episodes are currently airing on HGTV.
