If art is, as they say, meant to hold a mirror up to society, then this photo of a girl slumped over in the London underground at 8 am on a Saturday morning with an entire pizza slipping out of its box is art.

Because even if you haven't found yourself passed out on the train while cradling a box of pizza in your arms at 8 in the morning, you can somehow relate to this image of a woman blithely unaware of the fact that the one good thing in her life is currently oozing out onto the floor.

The stunning image was captured by BBC reporter and onlooker James Longman, who subsequently suggested starting a crowdfunding campaign to get this poor girl a new pizza.

The photo quickly went massively viral, with some other astute observers comparing it to a Renaissance painting in its genius.

Not unlike that viral photo that was taken on New Year's Eve last year, also in England.

Whereas some other optimists noted that while the pizza was on the paper it was still technically totally edible.

But that's the beauty of art: it's open to interpretation.
