We're constantly told to stay hydrated and to drink a significant amount of water everyday, but considering how bad plastic bottles are for the environment, H2O-on-the-go doesn't seem super sustainable.

Until scientists developed these 'edible water balloons', that is, in an attempt to combat the amount of plastic waste we produce, and to keep people drinking water regularly.

A group of engineers at Skipping Rocks Lab developed The Ooho!: an edible globe filled water that you put in your mouth whole, whenever you feel like having a sip of water.

The outer shell is made of algae, so it's edible and biodegradable, while the inside is filled with water.

We're assuming they feel like the pop-able tapioca balls that you can get in Bubble Tea, only with water inside. Maybe.

The globes of water are self-contained and ready to consume, meaning there's no need for packaging or plastic. Skipping Rocks Lab have created a crowdfunding page in a bid to spread The Ooho! product wider, and to festivals and marathons within the next 12 months.

Their description reads:

Ooho! is a sustainable packaging alternative to plastic bottles and cups, made from a seaweed extract. It is entirely biodegradable and so natural you can actually eat it. Ooho sachets are flexible packets of water, drunk by tearing a hole and pouring into your mouth, or consumed whole. Our packaging is cheaper than plastic and can encapsulate any beverage including water, soft drinks, spirits, and even cosmetics."
