An apartment overlooking New York's Central Park where David Bowie once lived with his wife, Iman, is now for sale—and it comes with the legendary singer's personal piano.
The 1,877-square-foot Essex House condo was the couple's home from 1991 until 2002. With three bedrooms (two master-sized), the red-accented home offers plenty of opportunities for relaxation with en-suite baths of custom marble, porcelain and limestone, a rain shower, and heated floors, according to the listing. The kitchen is newly renovated, and the massive living room is 28 feet wide, opening to a walnut-paneled office that looks onto Central Park.
The asking price? $6,495,000. However, that price tag comes with plenty of remnants of the famous couple's time there. Take, for instance, Bowie's Yamaha piano, which has been passed down through owners since the singer lived there. The home also still boasts the paneled dressing room that was built for Iman and hidden shelves in the living room. However, the panic room the couple built (in case a fan sneaked into the home) is now once again a water closet, according to Luxury Listings NYC.
Marriott Corp. converted the circa-1929 Essex House into a condominium hotel in 1974. Residents can access the five-star hotel's services and amenities, either as part of the monthly common charges or served à la carte, reports Mansion Global.
The current owner—listed in public records as Stanley Ho Family Trust—purchased the unit for $4.45 million in 2010. Bowie passed away in 2016 at the age of 69, and his former Caribbean villa is also currently on the rental market.
