Your local Target store is about to look unrecognizable—and if you're in a hurry, you're going to love what they've done with the place. Target announced Monday that it is working on "the company's most ambitious store redesign to date," starting with a store in Richmond, Texas. That store will be the first in what will end up being 500 redesigned stores over the next three years, at the cost of billions of dollars.
The Texas store, which will open in October, will measure 124,000 square feet and feature one general entrance, and a second express entrance for online pickup, groceries, a wine and beer shop, and self-checkout lanes. The second entrance will have its own parking spaces, and workers can bring online orders directly to your car. The second entrance is similar to what many SuperTarget stores already have, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Inside the stores, there will be upgraded elements like wood paneling, concrete floors, and more circular, curved aisles with merchandise displays. Plus, workers will have new technology to help you find products and even help you pay from inside the store, similar to how Apple stores work. And the store will even have an outside area where you can sit with your friends and family.
Target released sketches of what the Texas store will look like. Here's the main entrance and center aisle:

Parts of the design will end up in 40 other stores in October; Target will then get feedback from customers before moving on to the rest of its 500-store lineup. And according to Retail Dive, dozens of other stores will get upgrades based on LA25, its program to overhaul stores in California.
