If you've ever paused, mid-order at Dairy Queen, to ask whether your Blizzard comes with chocolate or vanilla ice cream, you're not alone. And if the employee looked at you with some combination of zero-effs-given and mild confusion, that's no anomaly, either. Particularly when it comes to the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Blizzard. Sometimes it seems like it's made with vanilla soft serve, sometimes chocolate, as Reddit user ShadowNozeKnows noted when asking the following question to fellow users:
"I can't remember the last time I ate a meal at a Dairy Queen, but I will often stop by to grab a Blizzard (cookie dough!). But when I'm in other cities, I've noticed a curious variation. Some DQs add a squirt of chocolate syrup to the ice cream, no matter what flavor you've ordered. My hometown DQ does NOT do this, and I have to say that I prefer the vanilla soft serve surrounding those little pellets of cookie dough. So what's the official, corporate-sanctioned version of the Blizzard? Is it supposed to have chocolate added or not?"
User tkeon168 replied with a very succinct answer, explaining that the Cookie Dough Blizzard is supposed to be made with three ingredients: Vanilla soft serve, chocolate chip cookie dough, and chocolate fudge. (True enough, DQ confirms these ingredients.) When the treat is mixed, the fudge swirls into the ice cream, turning it a chocolatey flavor.
So basically, if your local DQ isn't adding the chocolate fudge, you're not getting a real Cookie Dough Blizzard. There's a simple fix, though: Ask for a new one — or if they can add some fudge on top. After all, no one wants to miss out on that chocolatey goodness.
