You can always expect the best food inventions from Japan. From fried chicken ice cream to Coca-Cola flavored hot dogs, this country has no shortage of interesting culinary concepts. Now the land of expert sushi chefs is setting its sights on reinventing the classic raw fish dish. Behold: Kit Kat sushi.
Beginning on February 2, the first street-facing Kit Kat shop will open its doors in Tokyo. As Kotaku reports, the Kit Kat sushi rolls were created to commemorate the event. The candy sushi will come in the flavors of "tuna," "egg," and "sea urchin." Though we're guessing those are plays on the classic maki rolls and not the actual flavors of these sweet treats, as the brand noted that the actual taste of the rolls is much more appetizing.
The Kit Kat sushi rolls will go for 3,000 yen (about $26). If you're not in Japan or just don't want to fork over the money, the rolls look easy enough to recreate at home. All you need are some Kit Kats, puffed rice, and white chocolate. And if you're feeling particularly creative (and hungry), there a few other tasty sushi variations out there—from Peeps sushi to sushi cupcakes. Hopefully your dentist won't mind.
