If you're dreaming of a white Christmas, you may want to be careful what you wish for.
Acccuweather.com reports that there's a major snowstorm barreling towards the very heart of the U.S. this weekend, causing whiteouts, dangerous roads, and major travel delays for people going home for the holidays.
The storm will begin in the Intermountain West area and strengthen as it heads over the High Plains on Saturday, moving Northeast on Christmas Day as far as the Great Lakes region. Because of the storm track, there won't be much snow from Minneapolis to Kansas City or Denver, but it's expected to create blizzard conditions in the Northern Plains and Northern Rockies.
It's also expected to create thunderstorms, torrential rain, hail, and even tornadoes from Omaha, Nebraska down to Dallas, Texas.
If you're in these areas, you might want to bump up your travel plans if at all possible, and be sure to stock up on blizzard essentials—like soup ingredients or hot chocolate—and bundle up! Stay safe and have a Merry Christmas.
