Japan's known for selling dozens of surprising KIT KAT flavors—seriously, they've released everything from strawberry cheesecake to sake—but in 2017, the brand's bringing its creative tastes stateside with red velvet KIT KATS.
While the wafers themselves aren't bright red, like the classic Southern cake, the candy itself is red velvet-flavored and coated in a white créme, a representative for Hershey's confirmed.
Packages have already started popping up in stores—an Impulsive Buy reader found a bag at Walmart just a few days ago—and Candy Warehouse has started selling it online, even though the bag is a limited-edition variety themed for Valentine's Day. Ten-ounce bags of the candy should be available nationwide over the next few weeks, depending on when the shipments are received and when stores start putting up their Valentine's Day seasonal displays.
Since photos started appearing of the new flavor, social media's been abuzz as people lose their minds over the thought of scoring a candy that tastes like 2015's hottest dessert trend.
This new release means you have a two-month window to go meta with your next candy cake, serving a red velvet-flavored cake studded with red velvet treats. (Bonus points if cream cheese frosting is involved—that's the one noticeable, and crucial, detail missing from the new KIT KAT flavor.)
