If you were one of the thousands of fans whose life was upended when Chik-fil-A ditched its barbecue dipping sauce earlier this year, it's time to breathe a big sigh of relief.
Back in July, Chik-fil-A quietly replaced its beloved original barbecue sauce with a brand-new recipe, called smokehouse barbecue sauce. To say fans were unhappy with the switch would be an understatement. For the past few months, social media has been overrun with customers threatening boycotts and begging the fast food chain to #BringBacktheBBQ. One die-hard sauce fan even started an online petition, that has since been signed by over 2,200 people.
Well, Chik-fil-A listened.
On Tuesday, the chain posted a video on YouTube announcing that it would be bringing back the original barbecue sauce. Taking a page from Jimmy Kimmel's "Celebrities Read Mean Tweets" series, the video featured Chik-fil-A employees reading tweets from angry customers.
"When we introduced a new Smokehouse Barbeque [sic] Sauce in July, we thought we were serving up a bold new flavor you'd love," Chick-fil-A wrote in a statement. "But your response was even bolder. After reading and rereading your messages aloud and on camera, we decided to change it back."
The fan-favorite barbecue sauce will officially return to restaurants on November 7, and smokehouse barbecue sauce will disappear forever. Plus, it looks like all that complaining paid off for some folks—Chik-fil-A told PEOPLE that around 5,000 of the customers who spoke out against the change will be receiving a free bottle of the original sauce.
There's still no word on whether or not the spicy chicken biscuit will ever be making a comeback, though. You can't have it all, we guess.
