Michelle Obama has 127 days left in the White House (*weeps*) and she's enjoying presidential senior year like the cool first lady she is: With alcohol. On Wednesday, The Ellen Show aired a segment featuring Obama and host Ellen DeGeneres on a shopping trip to CVS. (I feel like a trip to Target would have been more Obama's style, but I digress.)
The two regular ol' shoppers go around the store looking at stuff and opening it while members of Obama's Secret Service detail creep protectively a few aisles down. Obama gets a Coinstar tutorial. She picks out some "ear phones" for Sasha. She reads from a romance novel.
But the best part — THE BEST PART — is that this is the moment she discovers boxed wine on national television.
It's unclear whether the first lady really has never encountered cardboard container of Franzia before or if she's just making good TV, but she goes, "Wine in a box! How does this work? So how do you get it out of here?"
DeGeneres mock-demonstrates how:
Obama investigates the Franzia. "You can drink this for six weeks after opening?" Obama says, sounding mystified.
They then decide they need to open the wine and crowdsource for help. "Does anybody know how to open wine in a box?" A knowledgable woman named Jacqueline steps in to get the tap going. (Jacqueline pro-tip: "So put the cup under so it doesn't start to pour on the ground.")
Obama starts passing around the white zinfandel in Solo cups to other customers, because she's a good person who shares.
