Even though August is still technically part of summer, it's also the unofficial harbinger of fall-flavored foods, pumpkin beers, and—of course—the coveted pumpkin spice latte.
Last year, Starbucks released its Instagram famous PSL on September 8. But this year, McDonald's wants to dethrone the coffee giant by offering its fall-themed latte a full week ahead. Coming to Mickey D's menus for the first time in three years, the McCafe Pumpkin Spice Latte will officially be available nationwide on August 31. (If you ask us, this is way too early, but we know just how much PSL fanatics love their cinnamon-y sweets.)
Meanwhile, Peet's Coffee is also taking part in the pumpkin-spiced arms race with a dark chocolate pumpkin mocha that rolls out on August 31, too. It will join the chain's lineup of autumnal drinks that includes a standard pumpkin latte, a pumpkin "javiva," and a pumpkin chai.
So, um, R.I.P. summer?
