Being president of the United States is a hard job that requires a lot of energy, which means it also requires a lot of eating. The campaign trail is a long, arduous process and it's known that most candidates put on a few pounds while scouting for votes. Our current presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, have opposing views on almost everything, including what to eat while on the trail. Here's everything you need to know about what keeps the presidential hopefuls running each day.

One Side Keeps It More Disciplined, While The Other ... Not So Much.

On the Democratic side, Clinton is revered for her incredible will-power when it comes to her diet. According to two campaign aides, Clinton is "very disciplined" and has managed to continue "eating healthy" and is still "successfully resisting temptation," (which is more than we can say for ourselves and we're not even running for president). When presented with a display of delicious BBQ from Whole Hog Café in Little Rock, AR, Clinton looked it all over (including pulled pork, chicken slaw, and six different kinds of sausage) and decided on a single tomato slice. You go, girl.

On the Republican side, we see a different philosophy to staying energized on the campaign trail. Trump, who claims to have lost 15 pounds while on the campaign trail, is a fast food fanatic and skips most meals in favor of snacks. In November, he shared some of his food obsessions with the world: French fries, steak, "all of the things that we shouldn't be eating."

Both Sides Know When To Treat Themselves, Though.

In April, while campaigning in New York, Clinton visited Mikey Likes It Ice Cream in the East Village and taste-tested the "Victory Mac Daddy," an ice cream sandwich the shop designed with Clinton's campaign in mind.

While trying the ice cream, a reporter asked Clinton about the calorie count in the treat, to which the nominee responded, "Boo!" (As she rightfully should have.)

After scoring enough delegates to become the presumptive GOP nominee in May, Trump celebrated by chowing down on some McDonald's on his private jet (which is what we would probably do, too, if we could).

Is Breakfast the Most Important Meal of the Day? Not According To One Candidate.

Clinton, begins her day with a breakfast of well-done scrambled eggs. Known to stop at local restaurants and diners, Clinton and her husband, Bill, stopped for breakfast at a diner in Manchester, NH a few months ago. Bill shared a picture to his wife's Instagram, saying, "What does making a great muffin have in common with making a great president? Timing, preparation, and experience are all key."

Republican nominee, Donald Trump, has stated that he often skips breakfast and that it is his least favorite meal. When he does have time to squeeze in the most important meal of the day, though, he dines on eggs done over-well and bacon cooked medium. During a pit stop at the Hame House in Greenville, SC, Trump ordered a breakfast of two eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, and two biscuits.

They Like To Meet The Locals

While on the campaign trail, it is not uncommon for the candidates to stop at restaurants where they could be recognized by the public—be that people who support them or people who oppose them. While on her way to her make her first official campaign appearance in Iowa, Clinton stopped at a Toledo, OH Chipotle to grab some lunch: a chicken burrito bowl with guacamole, a chicken salad, and two drinks. Because she was wearing large sunglasses that hid most of her face, no one in the restaurant had any idea she was there until a reporter later called the manager.

As for Trump, he was spotted at the Arrow Diner in Manchester, NH eating a cheeseburger with fries, a ball of deep-fried macaroni and cheese, and sipping on a Diet Coke. He was approached by a woman who made it quite obvious that she was, uh, not his biggest fan. While the possible future president was enjoying his lunch, the woman went up to him and reportedly yelled, "Enjoy your burger, you racist!" Well, that's one way to get your point across.

Food In Iowa Was a Big Hit For Both Sides

Both candidates treated themselves while campaigning in Iowa. At the Iowa State Fair, Clinton splurged on a pork chop on a stick (though she only ate two bites) and a lemonade. While saying in the Royal Amsterdam Hotel in Pella, Trump enjoyed dinner in the hotel restaurant and ordered steak and potatoes.

Each Candidate Has A Unique Set of Preferred Snack Items

Favorite snacks for the nominees? Raw jalapeños, hummus, mocha cake, and DOVE ice cream bars for Clinton, and Oreos, Diet Coke, cherry-vanilla ice cream, and See's Candies for Trump.

We're not sure if hot peppers and cookies alone would give us enough energy to run a whole country, but let's hope it's all that these candidates need.
