We love waking up to Starbucks news, whether it's an Instagram of a colorful new new Starbucks drink or some helpful money-saving hacks, but the chain's latest announcement was not a pleasant start to our morning. Following a technology error that overcharged customers last week, Starbucks was forced to spill the beans about upcoming price increases.

Though the changes won't officially go into effect until July 12, some coffee drinkers were prematurely charged up to 30 cents per beverage above the normal price at U.S. stores. Thanks to the mistake, the cat's out of the bag earlier than expected ... and people are not happy.

News of the price hike definitely did not help any cases of the Tuesday blues.

And many customers are curious which items were affected by the change.

Some have even decided that the pricey coffee just isn't worth their dough anymore.

In a press release posted Friday—convenient timing, given that most people were offline for the long weekend by then—the company urged any impacted customers to reach out, presumably for a refund. Everyone else—enjoy the current prices while you can, and start mentally preparing for your coffee habit to get even more expensive...sigh.

UPDATE: July 12, 2016 at 11:16 a.m.

The price hikes have now taken effect. This means you could be paying 10 to 20 cents more than you previously were for drip coffee and up to 30 cents more per latte or cappuccino. Basically, Sbux is pulling a Mona-Lisa from Parks and Recreation.

And once again, people were NOT pleased:

However, Starbucks points out, 65 percent of the chain's offerings will not be affected by the price tag changes. Here's the full statement from the company:

On July 12, Starbucks made a small price adjustment in U.S. company-operated stores. Depending on the market, customers will experience increases of 10 to 20 cents on select sizes of brewed coffee to have, and 10 to 30 cents on espresso beverages and tea lattes. We expect the average customer ticket to increase by about one percent as a result of these beverage adjustments, however, 65 percent of beverage prices have not changed. Pricing is continually evaluated on a product-by-product and market-by-market basis in our stores in order to balance business needs while continuing to provide value to our loyal customers. We are committed to providing value to our customers in meaningful ways, including Starbucks Rewards, special in-store promotions, and competitive pricing, and believe that our approach to value properly balances the experience we provide customers with our need to effectively run our business.
