Starbucks can be great. It's brought cold brew and nitro coffee to the masses and is currently offering a full week of double stars for its rewards program. But it also puts out super sugary frappuccinos and everything on the menu is pretty damn pricey. That's why money-saving hacks at this coffee chain are particularly useful. Here's how to shave off a third of the price from one of the best summer drinks on the menu.

The "new" coffee Starbucks is peddling is a Doubleshot on Ice, which consists of a double shot of espresso, ice, milk, and simple syrup. Typically it sells for about $3.25.

But one writer at Brand Eating accidentally discovered an ordering hack for this iced coffee. After ordering said Doubleshot on Ice, she was instead charged for an "Iced Doppio Espresso" and handed a double shot of espresso over ice. So she walked over to the counter that's stocked with milk, cream, and sugar and whirled together her own Doubleshot on Ice—for a significantly cheaper price. Instead of coughing up over $3.25, she only had to pay $1.95.

And while that doesn't seem like much, think about it in the long run: Order using the Iced Doppio Espresso shortcut and you can get three iced double shots for the price of two, or four for the price of three, or five for the price of four, and so on. You're basically getting an additional coffee on the house. And that's worth toasting to—or rewarding your financial smarts with a frapp.
