McDonald's customers don't take it well when menu items change at the beloved chain. When they find out about discontinued options like the 'Big Breakfast', they demand to know why, and recent news about the end of McWraps has them up in arms. Customer reactions to the change run the gamut, but many people are disappointed that one of the chain's healthier options is no longer available.
When asked why McWraps have been disappearing from menus since last September, analysts cited the growing popularity of all-day breakfast and the time-consuming prep required to make the roll-ups, but a recent Bloomberg article sheds light on an entirely different factor: Millennials.
Yep, the target audience that so many brands scramble to please is the underlying reason why both large and snack-sized McWraps are being phased out at locations across the country. McDonald's created the wraps with a young, health-focused demographic in mind, providing a veggie-heavy, lower-calorie option that might compete with the popularity of Subway's sandwiches, but they didn't sell well.
Turns out millennials just weren't that into the healthy options that McDonald's was serving up, and now customers everywhere are suffering the consequences. All we can do is write an ode to the McWrap and wait to see what awesome, new menu items the fast-food wizards have up their sleeves.
