A new boozy burger is debuting on menus today at at Carl's Jr. and Hardee's, and race fans should take note. Created from a partnership with NASCAR driver Junior Johnson, the Midnight Moonshine burger is made to taste like the over-proof, un-aged whiskey though it contains no alcohol.
The black Angus beef patty is grilled, then given a slice of pepper-jack cheese, garlic-pepper fried onions, bacon and the namesake moonshine glaze created in conjunction with Piedmont Distillers. For now, it will be on a trial run at the chains' 3,600 locations; though CEO Andy Puzder told CNBC that it could become a permanent offering depending on how it fares.
Honestly, this is about as Ricky Bobby as a burger could get—with the exception of adding a few sticks of Big Red gum and using Wonder bread in place of a standard bun. One thing's for sure, though: If you're not first to eat it, you're last.
