Olive Garden has already turned its addictive breadsticks into appetizers and sandwiches but now the chain is experimenting with a new, cross-cultural dish. The latest from the restaurant's kitchen is a Piadina, which Olive Garden describes as a "richer, cheesier" quesadilla.

So now the restaurant that tells us we're family when we're there has decided to invent a new cuisine: Mexi-Ital. Or would it be Itali-Mex? Either way, we're not mad about it. Mostly because the piadina ($6.99) is comprised of two Italian flatbreads packed with cheese, vegetables and/or meat.

In all honesty, though, OG did not entirely make this up out of thin air. The piadina, also known as piada, is a centuries-old street snack in Italy. It's typically got a flaky crust, savory stuffings, and plenty of cheese (duh). And, for the record, it's pronounced "pia-dee-nuh."

Brand Eating reports that there are two types that will be added to the lunch menu Monday through Friday until 4 p.m., including  grilled chicken with spinach, Italian cheese sauce, sun-dried tomato, and basil; and grilled vegetable with roasted red peppers and mushrooms. Both options are paired with a dipping jar of marinara sauce. Wonder if the purveyors of never-ending pasta passes will start offering some hot sauce on the side, too. Or maybe we should just stick to pairing it with some Zuppa Tuscana soup
