Don't even try to argue with me on this one: Weekends are for waking up late, eating eggs Benedict at 2 p.m., and throwing back bottomless mimosas with your besties. It's an indulgent ritual that even the most frugal of your friends can't resist from time to time. Which is probably why TGI Fridays is trying to cash in on the addictive power of boozy brunch.
The fast-casual chain has already tested the mimosa-fueled meals in Farmingville, NY and now it's adding them to a massive overhaul of the brand that's starting at a Corpus Christi, TX location. The menu is aptly called Hangover Brunch, which will run on Saturdays and Sundays, and includes fresh-squeezed juices—presumably for mimosas, Bloody Marys, and bellinis (and maybe palomas spiked with George Clooney's tequila?). The lineup of booze-sopping plates ranges from chicken and waffles to bourbon steak and eggs to waffles topped with berries and proprietary Teddy Graham-like bears. Honestly, this could be better than the brand's all-day happy hour deal.
"Weekend brunches are very social," TGI Fridays President Ricky Richardson told Nation's Restaurant News, adding that he intends to reinvent "Fridays as a social place to be" by taking aim at "occasions that are truly social at heart."
But this is just one small facet of a huge game-plan to breathe new life into TGI Fridays as a whole. Following the social theme, the company will also open Fridays Offsite, an adjoining café for the coffee-shop crowd that wants to sit with a hot cup and either chat or get work over free WiFi. Then there's a new late-night entertainment programs like live music, trivia, "Drop the Mike" nights—you know, the stuff your favorite dive offers. This has also sparked extended hours, pushing its operating time from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. every day.
No word yet on whether all of these drastic changes will make their way to TGI Fridays restaurants across the country, but we're keeping our fingers crossed for bottomless brunch for everyone. Because you need to treat yo' self.
