Whole Foods got itself into trouble after a photo of peeled oranges packaged in plastic boxes went viral on Thursday.
Nathalie Gordon took the photo at a California location and shared it on her Twitter with the caption "If only nature would find a way to cover these oranges so we didn't need to waste so much plastic on them." Ooo, burn.
People were pissed about the eco-friendly chain's improper use of plastic and retweeted the photo like crazy. To date, it's been retweeted 60,000 times (ah, the power of the internet).
The chain responded by tweeting an apology and removing the blasphemous oranges from its shelves.
In an interview with the Huffington Post a Whole Foods rep said "a lot of our customers love the convenience of our cut produce offerings, but this was a simple case where a handful of stores experimented with a seasonal product spotlight that wasn't fully thought through."
While we love that Whole Foods likes to appeal to our laziness by prepping healthy snacks for us, we def agree that this "innovative" idea was kinda just really dumb (although this is more forgivable than their proposed tattoo parlors).
It's OK though, at least it's a little comforting to know that even our beloved Whole Foods screws up every once in a while.
