Just over a month after launching its McPick2 For $2 menu—from which customers could take home a pair of burgers, chicken sandwiches, order of mozzarella sticks, or small french fries for two bucks—McDonald's has upped the price tag. Starting February 29, the new McPick2 menu will set you back $5 instead.

There's also a lineup change to the forthcoming national value menu. It will include the Big Mac, Filet-o-Fish, Quarter Pounder, and 10-piece chicken nuggets—all of which can be paired with fries. These items might be considered a step up from the smaller choices on the now defunct Dollar Menu (R.I.P.) and the simple pairings on the soon-to-be retired $2 docket. Still, fans are not happy. And they're taking to social media to complain about the price hike.

After the Dollar Menu launched in 2002, it wasn't until 2012 that some items were bumped up to $2 each. Then again a year later, those same items were listed for $1, $2, and $5 each—until the McPick2 came along in January 2016, that is. It's also worth noting that when the Big Mac first hit menus nationwide back in 1968, it cost 45 cents (about $3 today). So maybe two for $5 is actually a decent deal.

Though it's still hard to say what will happen to McDonald's latest attempt at boosting sales—especially when you can score a $1 breakfast at Taco Bell and five dishes for $4 at Burger King.
