It looks like Whole Foods is really trying to be the hipsteriest of the hipster grocers. According to Grub Street, the super-popular chain is trying to up its cool by possibly introducing a creative (or bizarre) new section to its 365 by Whole Foods Market stores: tattoo parlors. Because a tattoo aisle is obviously what every grocery store needs.
Walter Robbs, Co-CEO of Whole Foods, talked to Bloomberg about the company's Friends of 365 project which aims to partner with cool third party vendors such as tattoo parlors and record stores to set up shop in the 365 stores.
According to the 365 site, the stores are open to a variety of ideas including clothing, barber shops, and knife sharpeners, you know, to meet all your lumberjack needs. Interested businesses submitted videos and 365 allowed public voting since November.
Though no tattoo parlors have actually submitted any proposals there are some interesting, but expected, food and body care products. The biggest stand out is a proposal for Jelt, a belt made of recycled yarn that grips pants with a gel lining to, as they say, "cover your crack." So uh, yeah. There's that.
We're not sure if this is the best or worst idea ever but we're appreciative of Whole Food's attempt to remain hipster AF.
