2015 was a year of many recalls. Between Blue Bell's unfortunate listeria spell, Wish Bone's ranch dressing upset, Trader Joe's exploding ginger beer bottles, and countless other incidents, it seemed like no product was out of harms way. And now, just five days into the new year, it looks like 2016 may be similarly fraught: Walmart is recalling its Black Angus Burgers because of a possible wood contamination.
According to the USDA, Huisken Meat Company—Walmart's meat supplier—recently discovered pieces of wood in Sam's Choice Black Angus patties produced between November 19th and December 5th. Thankfully, no customers have reported finding any contaminated burgers so far, and to keep it that way the company has issued a formal recall.
Contaminated boxes will carry use-by dates of either 5/17/2016, 5/29/2016, or 6/6/2016 and feature the above image. If you think you may have one, you can also double-check on the USDA inspection site with the number 394A. Customers should either return the product for a full refund, or just toss it. Any additional questions can be answered by Huisken Meat Company's service manager at (618) 857-4011. In the meantime, satisfy your burger cravings by making your own. We promise these recipes don't have any woodchips in them.
