Guests at a wedding in Beauvais, France, this month were met with quite the surprise during the reception. And no, we're not talking about Love Is Blind-esque drama. Instead, guests were shocked to discover that the catering at the wedding reception came courtesy of McDonald's.
Ophélie and Thomas Billaudeau, the newlywed couple responsible for the quirky catering choice, shared video of the big reveal in a TikTok that has gone on to receive well over 2 million views.
In the video, we see a man carries bags of McDonald's to a table. As it becomes clear he's serving up lots of McDonald's, the stunned wedding guests start cheering and clapping.
While speaking with People, Thomas Billaudeau explained that the idea to serve McDonald's was initially just a joke.
"We had the idea because we are big fans of McDonald's and jokingly said when we were younger that we would have McDonald's at our wedding," he said. "Eventually, we decided to go for it. People who know us weren't surprised. We only served McDonald's food, including all the burgers from the menu. We didn't serve fries or potatoes to avoid them getting cold and soggy."
Instead of wedding-day jitters, you could say that the couple had a bit of fast food fear, especially when it concerned the older guests at the wedding. Ophélie revealed to French newspaper Le Parisien that some people were in fact taken aback by the fast food catering.
“We were a little afraid of the reaction of certain aunts and uncles,” Ophélie explained. “They had a little trouble at first, but everyone ate eventually."
"The guests were surprised, happy, and some were initially hesitant, but everyone ended up loving it," Thomas said.
If you're considering tapping your favorite fast food spot to cater upcoming wedding, we should warn you that Thomas admitted that he "wouldn't necessarily recommend it."
