Trader Joe's just issued a voluntary recall of its kicked-up ginger ale after customer reports claim that the unopened bottles are exploding.

The grocery chain's proprietary "Triple Ginger Brew" is carbonated and packaged in a 750-mL glass bottle with a wire bail lid, which means that if and when it bursts, safety hazards include broken glass and metal. This prompted Trader Joe's to issue a total recall of all Ginger Brew bottles that were purchased between November 9 and December 14.

While the soft drink poses no health risks if consumed, all product has been removed from store shelves and destroyed, the company stated in a release. So far, no injuries or illnesses have been reported.

The affected products were shipped to Trader Joe's store nationwide. So if you have a bottle on hand but not a receipt to mark the date, it might be best to just toss the stuff as a precaution. The company urges consumers to handle the bottles with care and dispose of them in an outside container. Trader Joe's will provide full refunds to customers who purchased the ginger ale at any of its stores.
