By now, we understand that you have to expect the unexpected when it comes to insane hybrid Japanese cuisine. Seriously, we've seen everything from gold-wrapped Kit-Kats to Shrimp Mayonnaise-flavored Doritos to Coca-Cola-flavored hot dogs. Nothing could have prepared for Japan's latest invention, though. McDonald's Japan is releasing a 48-piece McNugget bucket.

If you're anything like us, your first question upon reading this news was, "Why?" We don't have an answer for that one, unfortunately. However, if you're really like us, your second question was probably, "How many calories are in that bad boy?" A whopping 2,256, according to Kotaku

Up until now, the most McNuggets you could get at once in Japan was 15 (the biggest box here in the United States is 40 pieces, FYI). The limited edition 48-piece bucket will only be available in Niigata Prefecture and will cost 1,800 yen, or about $14.69.

Whose idea was this? Why? How? These are the questions that will haunt us forever, or until we go to Japan and all is revealed.
