Birria tacos have been having a huge moment in the U.S., and now one of the biggest fast food chains is finally hopping on the trend. Taco Bell just announced that its newest offering is the birria-inspired Grilled Cheese Dipping Taco. The new taco has been tested in a few cities over the past year, and will be available nationwide starting August 3.
The savory tacos are crafted using slow-braised shredded beef (another first for Taco Bell), a melted three-cheese blend, and a creamy jalapeño sauce. The tacos are then grilled and served with two dips: nacho cheese sauce and red sauce.
Known for keeping customers on their toes with new innovations, Taco Bell revealed that the Grilled Cheese Dipping Taco is "an evolution of what fans typically expect from Taco Bell."
"The rich and spicy flavors often found in birria were a major point of inspiration as we created the new Grilled Cheese Dipping Taco. By combining slow-braised shredded beef with the two dipping sauces, our fans can enjoy a new range of flavors they may have never had from Taco Bell before," said Liz Matthews, Global Chief Food Innovation Officer at Taco Bell, in a statement.
The official Instagram account for Taco Bell shared the news online, and the response from fans has been... colorful to say the least. One commenter in particular took a look at the tacos and the enticing duo of dips and declared, "This is NSFW."
Other users were just as enthralled by the reveal of the new menu items.
"Christmas has come early," one person commented.
"Roll me up and dip me in that," said another Taco Bell fan.
Enough said! With the rising popularity of birria, this one's bound to be crowd pleaser.
