After the viral success of the Grimace Shake, McDonald's is gearing up for yet another blast from the past, but this time on a much larger scale. Business Insider reports that McDonald's is developing a new spinoff restaurant inspired by CosMc, an obscure McDonaldland character that was introduced in the '80s.

Details for the new restaurant, which will be called CosMc's, are still scarce, but the company's CEO Chris Kempczinski did reveal that it will have "its own unique personality."

"Our new business ventures team is in the process of developing a new concept we will call CosMc's, which we will test in a small handful of sites in a limited geography beginning early next year," Kempczinski said during a McDonald's earnings call, Business Insider reports. "CosMc's is a small-format concept with all the DNA of McDonald's but its own unique personality."

Kempczinski later hinted that there could be even more in store for McDonald's in the future.

"While our primary focus is on opening traditional units, we are always testing and learning new ways to meet the needs of our customers," Kempczinski shared.

So you might be wondering, who is CosMc again? The inspiration for the new restaurant is a background character from McDonaldland who is far less famous than Ronald McDonald, Grimace, and the Hamburglar.

A McDonald's Fandom website offers a bit more info about the yellow creature, telling us that CosMc is "an alien character who visited McDonaldland." CosMc was featured in several McDonald's commercials and even the M.C. Kids video game.
