After a nine-year hiatus, Krispy Kreme is returning to Houston, TX. This donut revival had die-hard fans staking out spots as early at 8 a.m. on Monday—even though the shop didn't open until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
That might be because, according to the company's website, the first person in line will receive a dozen free original glazed donuts once a week for a year, and the next 99 people will get a dozen free glazed each month for a year.
Flipping a former Arby's restaurant into a sweet spot, the new Krispy Kreme is located at 8611 Westheimer and a second location is slated to open Nov. 17 at 5603 Texas 6 North. Plus, additional Krispy Kreme stores are planned for the South 610 Loop near Main Street and Spencer Highway in Pasadena, the company said.
This is massive news for Houston residents, who've been without the classic chain since March 2006, when the company ended its stint in the area and closed all five stores there. If you ask us, the revival of the OG pastry-and-coffee shop is something celebrate—with donuts, of course.
