Once upon a time, delivery was reserved for pizza, Chinese takeout, and the like. Now big brands like McDonald's and 7-Eleven are getting in on the (lazy) fun. Delivery has become a one-upping tool for brands. So much so that Domino's even rolled out delivery ordering via Twitter and pizza emojis. And now Walmart wants to start delivering groceries with drones.

Before you freak out, know that this is not the beginning of the robot takeover. Certain restaurants have already replaced waiters with drones, and Amazon expressed an interest in the service months ago. That's because these little fellas would simply be making things easier on delivery men and women everywhere. Plus, think of all the groceries you can have air-lifted to your front stoop. You know, instead of schlepping a car load of grocery bags to your kitchen.

As of now, Walmart has only tested the service indoors. Before it can release drones into the open skies, the company needs permission from the Federal Aviation Administration. Unfortunately, according to Consumeristthe FAA announced in June that it would be at least a year before it establishes official rules regarding the use of commercial drones. Anyone interested in them will have to wait until then for approval. So it may be a while before we actually see these things flying around.
