Burgers are one of man's best creations. They're greasy good, super filling, and basically make grilling season complete. Plus, they hold up to a ton of toppings—like salty bacon, gooey cheese, and runny fried eggs—and off-kilter buns made with ramen noodles and tomatoes. And we're totally okay with all of that. In fact, we're obsessed with over-the-top burgers. But a Canadian patty chain might have taken things too far.
At the Works Gourmet Burger Bistro, the new "Reese's PBC" is a beef patty stuffed with—yep, you guessed it—a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. And the restaurant doesn't stop there. Instead they pile it with crispy onion strings, smoked bacon strips, and even more chopped peanut butter cups. We are all about playing up sweet-and-savory combinations, but just looking at this burger leaves a strange taste in our mouths. The Works certainly isn't the first chain to add a Reese's-based menu item to its repertoire, but we feel like it should have been relegated to the dessert menu.
This burger debuted with two other stunt burgers, including the "Burgeroni" stuffed with chorizo and topped with pizza sauce, mozzarella, fried onion strings, and baked pepperoni. It's less of an abomination, but more of the heartburn. Then there's the "Loaded Lucy," the least offensive of the bunch, filled with cheese and layered with standard burger toppings. Lettuce and tomato never looked so comforting.
PBC aside, The Works seems like a pretty awesome chain, serving beer on tap, mixed drinks, and famous Canadian poutine. The regular menu boasts a burger called the Sk8er Boy that's slathered in peanut butter, so maybe we should have seen the Reese's patty coming. On the other hand, we'd rather not.
