We have a hunch that Ben & Jerry's is never going to stop surprising us. Back in April the brand announced that it was releasing ice-cream flavored beer thanks to a partnership with New Belgium Beer. And we leapt for joy of a summer spent sipping and scooping pints. Today the ice-cream company is going full circle, releasing an ice cream made using said beer: Salted Caramel Brown-ie Ale Ice Cream.
So let's get this straight. It's beer flavored using ice cream, and ice cream made with the beer that's made with ice cream. This is getting very meta, but we love it. After getting a first taste of the new flavor we've decided that we'll have to revise our ranking of the Best Ben & Jerry's flavors—with this pint somewhere close to the top slot.
Salted Caramel Brown-ie Ale ice cream ($4.89) is sweet, a bit malty, and only slightly hoppy if even at all. And there are generous swirls of brown-buttery caramel and fudgey chunks of brownie. We couldn't stop shoveling it into our mouths—that is, until our sample pint ran out. Thankfully, we can get another (or a dozen) at grocery and convenience stores nationwide this month.
Ben & Jerry's partnership with Colorado-based New Belgium Brewing springs from both companies' status as B Corps, or "Beneficial Corporations," which means each brand meets comprehensive and transparent performance standards that measure a company's impact on workers, suppliers, communities and the environment. Cheers to that!
