In what feels like the billionth time something like this has happened in 2015, produce giant Dole announced a voluntary recall this morning on their bagged spinach products, which may have been exposed to salmonella.
The recalled bags were shipped to the following 13 states: Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
In addition, affected bags can be identified by codes A27409B and A27409A, an "Enjoy By" date of October 15, 2015 and a UPC code of 7143000976. If you've purchased one of these bags, the company suggests that you throw it out, or that you call call the Dole Food Company Consumer Response Center at 800-356-3111.
No illnesses have been reported yet in connection with this recall, but as always, it is better to be safe than sorry when it comes to salmonella. If you need a refresher, salmonella causes 1.2 million people to get sick each year, with symptoms like fever, cramps and diarrhea. Blech.
