October 6 was a big day for McDonald's fans eagerly awaiting the roll-out of all-day breakfast options like afternoon hash browns, dinnertime Egg McMuffins, and even midnight hot cakes. Meanwhile, companies that have been in the all-day breakfast game for years—some of them since they first opened—are calling out the Golden Arches for being such a late adopter. Er, copycat. Er, wannabe. Well, you get the idea. Check out the best of the chains' sizzling remarks:
IHOP led the charge, tweeting out a range of comments that take aim at McDonald's, like this sassy stab:
And this comment about "shoot[ing] your [own] shot."
But the pancake brand's winning commentary channeled Nicki Minaj at the VMAs:
Then Denny's came into play, adding its thoughts on copycats.
Followed by Dunkin' Donuts, who reminded everyone that you can get breakfast there all the time. Since forever.
Of course Waffle House chimed in, emphasizing its history—since 1955!—in the all-day breakfast category.
And 7-Eleven took a cheeky approach, trying to take ownership over the entire concept.
Then there's Carl's Jr., who thinks burgers are better than breakfast.
Wait, they might be onto something there.
