Some way, some how Domino's—the chain hawking cinnamon-dusted breadsticks and delivering pies with emoji ordering—has laid claim to Italy. But apparently instead of bringing American pizza to the birthplace of Margherita and Neapolitan pies, the brand will morph into a new Italian iteration of itself.
Located in Milan, Domino's first Italian outpost is going all-out, tailoring its menu to local tastes. And apparently two more Milan locations are on the way.
The menu will showcase only local ingredients, including prosciutto de parma, gorgonzola, grana padano, mozzarella di bufala—wait a second, can we get some of these high-grade ingredients in the States?
Though the intention is to evolve, this is still a very bold move for Domino's. What we consider a slice now, the modern pizza, was invented in Naples, Italy. And the first-ever record of the term "pizza" dates back to a Latin manuscript from 10th century Italy. Those are some serious roots you're stepping on. But, to be fair, Domino's has had even more hair-brained ideas—like building a pizza shop on the moon.
