In case you're not already full of candy corn this Halloween, you can stop by your local Chipotle to gorge on burritos—at a steep discount. Every year, the chain offers specials on October 31, but there's a catch: You have to wear a costume.
This year, Chipotle's "Boorito" fundraiser will require people to dress up in a costume with an "unnecessary" addition, to promote the chain's simple ingredients. This year, Chipotle nixed GMOs from the majority of its menu items, and wants to promote the fact that it's menu only uses 68 ingredients. They created an ad for the occasion and everything:
If you show up with an "unnecessary" costume, you'll get a $3 burrito, bowl, salad, or taco dish, and Chipotle will donate $1 to the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation, which works with farmers and promotes food literacy and healthy eating. The fundraiser has been going on for years with different themes, and previously required you to dress as an actual burrito to get the discount. This year's promotion is already getting some blowback for being "preachy" instead of fun, but it's tough to complain when you're getting cheap carnitas.
Looking for ideas this year? Chipotle created a few examples of what they're going for, and it seems pretty open ended. A good rule of thumb: Just add cat ears or a clown nose to whatever you're wearing. It fits the "unnecessary" requirement, and probably costs less than your discounted burrito bowl.
