Science is constantly changing the way we eat and see food. Whether churning out insane inventions like french-fry vending machines, finding the ultimate hangover cure, or super-charging some Vegemite, it's clear the world's scholars have a serious appetite for culinary creations. And their latest invention may be the coolest one yet.
Enter laser printers. Developed by the 3-D printing company Glowforge, these machines are basically the opposite of your standard 3-D printer: Instead of building layers, it slices them away, which is perfect for intricately decorating just about anything. The demo-video strongly encourages slicing up and decorating your sushi—the seaweed designs are almost as cute as these fishy cupcakes—but we're thinking of all the other possibilities. Hello, pizza-printed marshmallows.

Unfortunately the printers aren't exactly cheap. The full price clocks in at a hefty $3995, but if you order before October 24, you can snag one for $1995—a whopping 50 percent off, yet still pretty steep. But if decorating your food with delicate flowers is your game, we'd say it's a solid investment.
