McDonald's

Old McDonald's has had a doozy of a year—between faltering sales and customer satisfaction, insane new self-service kiosks, and all-day breakfast with a major catch, the burger chain's life is a constant up and down. It seems with every step forward the company takes a step back, and just when it seems like it may finally be winning back our hearts, something totally unsavory happens.

The chain's most recent icky incident took place earlier this week at a location in Canterbury, England: According to The Daily Meal,13-year-old Annabelle Tickle found a splinter in her strawberry lemonade after it was already too late. Tickle reportedly knew something was up when she felt a tickle (see what we did there?) in the back of her throat after drinking the beverage. When she began to "taste blood," she reached into her throat and found an inch long splinter. Oy vey.

Tickle and her father believe the splinter came from a wooden coffee stirrer, which, while not unlikely, doesn't totally seem like McDonald's fault. However, company officials are taking this seriously and intend to begin investigation on the issue as soon as Tickle sends along the evidence (read: that wooden coffee stirrer). In the meantime, it might be in McDonald's best interest to invest in some plastic stirrers.
