Food delivery isn't what it used to be. Once reserved for Chinese food and pizza, you can now eat just about any fast food imaginable without getting off the couch—McDonald's, Taco Bell, and 7-Eleven are just a few of the many chains that have started offering the service. While that's all fine and well for the occasional junk food craving, it puts healthy eaters the inconvenient position of actually having to leave their apartments to get fruit and veggies from the farmer's market. But, thanks to Amazon, that might not be the case for long.
According to the Los Angeles Time, the company is testing out a new delivery service that will bring all the freshest produce directly from the farm to your doorstep, 36 hours after harvest. Developed in partnership with Fresh Nation, and dreamed up by Tony Lee, the Farmers Market Direct program aims to make, "fresh local food more available to more people."
Though the service is currently only available in Southern California—it's being tested in Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego—Amazon hopes to expand nationwide if it's successful. For now, lucky Californians can purchase individual fruit and veggie baskets, ranging from small ($39) to large ($59), with delivery included, or opt for individual items like nuts or small produce packages with just a small delivery fee.
Hopefully it's only a matter of time before this service works it way across the country. In the meantime, we'll bide our time with a few cocktails courtesy of Amazon's other amazing delivery deal.
