In an open letter to McDonald's, Burger King proposed the companies "settle the beef" by making a hybrid from the Big Mac and Whopper, called the McWhopper. Using a full-page newspaper ad and interactive website, it was a total PR move "in honor of #PeaceDay"—though the idea was so crazy, we thought, it just might work.
But the Golden Arches wasn't having it, replying with "We love the intention but think our two brands could do something bigger to make a difference." Womp womp. Way to be a dream crusher, Mickey D's.
Still, we think Burger King might have been onto something, so we decided to take matters into our own hands. After sprinting to the two chains for their prized patties, we combined the hallmark burgers from each brand into one monster sandwich—probably packed with more cholesterol than anyone should ever have.
The result? A kickass, three-bun burger layered with melted American cheese, Mac Sauce, and double the pickles. The beefed-up bottom burger from the Whopper acts as a great platform for the saucy double decker on top, even though the Big Mac flavor completely takes over.
And as much as we hate to admit it, we're lovin' it—even if McDonald's isn't.
