Jared Fogle, the former Subway spokesman who lost 245 pounds while eating fast-food sandwiches, is expected to plead guilty to possession of child pornography charges, according to Fox59, the Fox affiliate in Indianapolis.
FOX59 said Fogle will accept the plea deal on Wednesday, the same day the U.S. Attorney's office plans to announce the deal. The ABC affiliate in Indianapolis said information about the specifics of the crime had not been released, but the guilty plea could result in an eight-year prison sentence. Disturbing details about the case were recently released, regarding texts and supposed evidence that investigators found.
Both the offices of Fogle's attorney, Ron Elberger, and the U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Indiana were closed after the news emerged. Neither immediately responded to phone messages.
The news comes less than two months after federal authorities raided his home in the Indianapolis suburb of Zionsville in connection with a child pornography case. Agents removed electronics from the house for analysis. Fogle was detained during the raid, but not arrested.
The raid followed an investigation of Russell Taylor, who led Fogle's foundation until he was arrested for possessing child pornography. The foundation has since cut all ties with taylor.
Subway had suspended its relationship with Fogle as a result of the raid. Nicole Pence, a reporter with Fox59, indicated in a tweet Tuesday that a lawyer for Fogle said the suspension continued.
