Caffeine helps many people power through work, late-night study sessions, and much more. But for one TikTok user, discovering just how much caffeine she was consuming in a drink she loves was an absolute shocker.
In a recent TikTok video, user @sarahebaus revealed that she typically works out of local Panera Bread and enjoys several Mango Yuzu Citrus Charged Lemonades, given that there are free refills. Thing is, each lemonade contains a whopping 260 mg of caffeine per serving, according to the Panera website.
"I work in a Panera when I'm doing my work because I don't wanna pay for a co-working space because working from home makes me want to dig my own grave because I'm alone and I don't have human interaction...And when I'm at my local Panera they have free refills," @sarahebaus explained.
The TikToker, who admitted to feeling like the Hulk when drinking the lemonade, went on to share that she's aware there was caffeine, but didn't know how much was in the lemonade. It wasn't until her husband looked at the nutritional facts while they were at a Panera drive-thru that she learned of the high caffeine content.
"The regular size has 82 grams of sugar. Whatever. Let's push that aside. It has 260 milligrams of caffeine. An espresso—I looked it up—has 63 milligrams of caffeine...I don't drink coffee. I don't have caffeine very much. I thought!" she added.
Just two of the Mango Yuzu Citrus Charged Lemonades gets you above the daily caffeine maximum recommended by the FDA. "For healthy adults, the FDA has cited 400 milligrams a day—that's about four or five cups of coffee—as an amount not generally associated with dangerous, negative effects," a message on the FDA website reads.
For those wondering, @sarahebaus said that she'll be watering down her Mango Yuzu Citrus Charged Lemonade from now on.
