As much as we hate to admit it, there's no amount of preparation, or even meditation, that can ensure that Thanksgiving dinner goes off without a hitch. When entertaining a large group of friends and family while also cooking more dishes than you can count, things can quickly go south. Fortunately, there's perfection in imperfection, and that poor turkey you scorched beyond recognition will absolutely make for a hilarious story for holidays to come.

In honor of Turkey Day, we recently shared an Instagram survey asking you, dear readers, to reveal your most embarrassing Thanksgiving fails. And we've got to hand it to ya, you didn't hold back. We're talking tragic turkey tales, doomed bakeware, ghosted giblets, and so much more 😂.

To our surprise, many of you appeared to have been sabotaged by your own ovens. "Oven caught fire the morning of thanksgiving and we ended up having to grill the turkey," user @brilovesjazzie revealed.

In addition to making sure those ovens are in tip-top shape, now might also be a great time for a refresher on the dangers of exploding bakeware. At least for the sake of your side dishes.

"Discovering that a Pyrex pan canNOT be used on a stove top," @kccinderella shared. Another user, @onirmg, found themselves in a similar predicament, writing "I turned on the wrong burner and my glass dish of prepared stuffing exploded."

A couple readers had sugar mishaps. For @lesliesmithsheehan, she "used sugar instead of salt in the mashed potatoes 🤦‍♀️" whereas @siennavictoria1's mom "forgot to add the sugar to the pumpkin pies. She didn't notice until we started eating it!"

While most Thanksgiving fails usually involve a dish being burned or overcooked, sometimes those oh-so vital steps like, well, cooking the turkey can slip our minds. "Forgetting to put the Turkey in the oven! Ate at midnight," @maxinecaines confessed.

And let's not forget about those elusive giblets. "My turkey had 2 bags of giblets and I only found 1!! My Dad never let me live it down!!," @terriglenn3 shared. They're far from the only one with giblet issues. "Left the giblet bag in turkey," @phyllynilly added.

Hoping you have a fail-free Thanksgiving! But if you don't, feel free to share all the juicy details!
