As kids as head back to school, parents may want to double check their drinks before packing them in lunch boxes. An August 12 announcement on The Kraft Heinz Company website reveals that thousands of cases of Wild Cherry Capri Sun beverages have been voluntarily recalled.

The drink pouches were recalled because they were contaminated by a diluted cleaning solution. The cleaning solution, which is used on food-processing equipment, "was inadvertently introduced into a production line" at one of the Kraft Heinz facilities, according to the statement. The company was tipped off about the problem when consumers complained about the drink's taste. The recall is for products in the United States and does not apply to other markets.

"The issue was discovered after we received several consumer complaints about the taste of the affected product. The Company is actively working with retail partners and distributors to remove potentially impacted product from circulation," the announcement reads.

The affected Capri Suns are Wild Cherry flavor and have a "Best When Used By" date of June 25, 2023. Additional information on the manufacturer code, carton UPC, and more can be found on The Kraft Heinz Company website. Anyone who has bought the Capri Suns are asked not to consume the beverage. They should return the Capri Suns to the store where they were purchased.

Over on social media, the Instagram account for Capri Sun has been inundated with comments from people expressing their anger over the recall. Their most recent Instagram post's comments included several questions about the cleaning solution, with some users pondering legal action.

A spokesperson for Capri Sun AG (the parent company of Capri-Sun, who issue the license to Kraft Heinz in North America) said, “Kraft-Heinz, the Capri-Sun licensing partner in the U.S., has been mentioned in the media due to a voluntary recall of approximately 5,760 cases of Capri Sun Wild Cherry Flavored Juice Drink products. This is happening in the United States only and there is no risk of a serious health issue. Capri-Sun’s produced in other markets are made by a different manufacturer and are not impacted by the U.S. recall in any way. At Capri-Sun, we’re committed, as always to a high standard of quality, as the safety of our consumers is paramount. If anyone does have concerns over their product, we encourage them to contact the relevant customer support line in their country of purchase, which can be found on the back of their Capri-Sun products.”
