If you've ever gone to great lengths to apologize, then this story will resonate. A man in Australia was mortified to discover that a DoorDasher delivering his McDonald's thought the man was yelling at him when he was in fact scolding his dog. Melbourne resident Mark Polchleb realized the miscommunication after reviewing his home's security-camera footage.

In the security footage, which Polchleb shared on TikTok, you can hear loud barking in the background right before Polchleb yells, "Get away from the door, mate!” The video then shows the DoorDasher, whose name is Sami, immediately stepping away from the door while also trying to take a photo of the delivery.

In the first in a series of TikTok videos, Polchleb wrote that he was "genuinely losing sleep" over the matter and expressed that he wanted to make amends with Sami.

Eager to find Sami to apologize for the snafu and give him an extra tip, Polchleb reached out to DoorDash, but didn't have much luck.

"Unfortunately, because it was two nights ago, you can no longer contact the driver directly," Polchleb said. "So, I've reached out to the support team through that chat and have given them a message to pass on. I've asked if I can tip him, but unfortunately again, because it has been two days, they cannot tip him... So if you can find a way to have someone—or you personally contact me, I would love to give you a tip or a McFlurry like you delivered me."

Thanks to Polchleb's first TikTok receiving nearly 40 million views, Sami was located. Sami's daughter saw the initial video, and a meeting was arranged between Sami and Polchleb.

“This afternoon I got to head out and meet with my DoorDasher Sami to say thank you in person and make sure he was happy,” Polcheib said in a video that documents the conclusion of his quest. “It was great to meet him and his family who were so, so proud of him working to raise money to see his son overseas.”

The story ends with even more good news. DoorDash was made aware of the story and has awarded Sami with Top Dasher status for life and extra Dasher pay. Additionally, a GoFundMe was set up to help Sami travel to France to visit his son. So far, the campaign has raised nearly $8,000.
