Remember the first weeks and months of the pandemic, when some grocery stores placed limits on how much toilet paper or milk you could buy? Get ready for a throwback, as supply chain concerns coupled with holiday demand mean that some food stores are taking proactive steps to limit stockpiling and ensure all customers get the products they need for their December gatherings.

Publix previously announced some purchasing limits around the Thanksgiving holiday, with rations placed on the following items: cranberry sauce, jarred gravy, cream cheese, bacon, rolled breakfast sausages, disposable plates, cups, cutlery, bath tissue, refrigerated snacks like Lunchables, sports drinks, aseptic juices like CapriSun, canned cat food variety packs, and refrigerated pet food.

Ahead of Christmas Eve and the New Year, additional items have been added to the existing list of products. Customers will now have to be mindful when buying coconut flakes, dairy whipping cream, half and half creamers, frozen pie shells, frozen hash browns, and canola, vegetable, and corn oils. Only two of each of these products can be purchased at this time.

Publix is closely monitoring their stock and the issues in the supply chain, with a& Publix spokesperson explaining these decisions were made so that every customer gets the food they need to celebrate the upcoming holidays. The items included in the list are also not set in stone, so products may be removed or added to the shopping limits throughout the season. That said, this is all just another reason to make a (grocery) list and check it twice and get some of that holiday food shopping done in advance so that you get what you need for your appetizers, main courses, and cookies, of course!
