Plant-based eating has been trending upwards, with flexitarian lifestyles being more popular than ever. There are a few ways to eat more plant-based at chain restaurants but meatless burgers and chicken are way more accessible than meatless pepperoni pizzas—until now. Pizza Hut is launching plant-based pepperoni at their locations so you can try it out for yourself and see if you even miss the real thing (we have a feeling you won't).
Pizza Hut has a partnership with Beyond Meat, the same people who are responsible for the popular Beyond Burger. Previously Pizza Hut tested plant-based sausage but only for a limited time. Beyond Meat pepperoni, on the other hand, will only get a limited release at participating locations for now. Of course, there's always the possibility it gets released nationwide if it sees limited market success.
Friendly reminder that although this new pepperoni is plant-based, a pizza isn't vegan because of the cheese and dough ingredients, so that's something to keep in mind if you follow a strict plant-based diet.
At the moment, the Beyond Meat pepperoni pizzas will become available on August 10. It will be launched in five United States cities including Albany, NY; Columbus, GA; Macon, GA; Jacksonville, FL; and Houston, Texas. So if you're in one of those areas, you're in luck. For everyone else, let's manifest a nationwide release so we can all try out the plant-based lifestyle while still living out our pizza-loving dreams.
