Blake Shelton knows his edible wild fungus. The musician recently found a super-fuzzy mushroom while on a walk in the woods, and he ate it. That is, after frying it up first!

Blake spotted a lion's mane mushroom growing on the side of a tree. Naturally, he took it off and cooked it up. “I’m also a member of the wild mushroom enthusiasts of Oklahoma group,” Shelton said on an episode of The Voice: “I found, collected, fried, and ate a lion’s mane mushroom.”

He shared this story directly with his co-hosts Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Nick Jonas, who all seemed to find it amusing. Legend’s response: “I can’t believe this is real.”

Shelton tweeted a photo of the lush mushroom for proof and asked: “Would y’all fry this up and eat it?” Personally, no. If it was already given to me in its final fried form, void of any furry-like features, then maybe. Even then, I would have preferred to not see the mushroom in its true state. It looks like a faceless Furby mixed with a soft version of a hedgehog.

If you didn’t know, lion’s mane mushrooms can be eaten raw, cooked, dried, or even steeped as tea. Extracts from the mushrooms are also often used in over-the-counter health supplements, according to Healthline. Oh, and they have major health benefits, including reducing the risk of heart disease. They apparently taste like seafood, so I guess if you're into that and come across one the next time you're on a woodland walk, you might want to consider grabbing it for dinner.
