The "Chicken Sandwich Wars" continue on, but recently they've gotten even more creative. I'm not complaining though because that just means we're getting more fried chicken items at our favorite fast-food chains. Right after the release of the new Taco Bell chicken sandwich taco in select markets, Popeyes posted a TikTok demonstrating how to make its famous chicken sandwich into two chicken tacos and the timing does seem a little bit shady!
According to the TikTok by the official Popeyes account, to transform your beloved chicken sandwich into tacos it only takes five simple steps. First, you'll need to buy the sandwich, (obviously). Then you'll open up the sandwich. From there, you should rub the two pieces of bread together to spread the sauce on either side before tearing the chicken in half. Finally, you'll want to fold the bun like a taco, put the chicken pieces inside, and garnish each with pickles "because they're jalapeños' first cousins."
While the finished product from the Popeyes chicken sandwich does look pretty delicious it has a striking resemblance to the Taco Bell chicken sandwich taco. Taco Bell's new menu item features a piece of crispy chicken that's marinated in jalapeño buttermilk, seasoned with "bold Mexican spices," and rolled in a tortilla chip coating served in "puffy bread" shaped to look like a taco. It's finished off with signature creamy chipotle sauce and can be ordered with jalapeño slices for a little bit of a kick.
I'm not saying that Popeyes totally took inspiration from Taco Bell before filming this TikTok—but I'm not not saying that. Still, I can't choose a favorite between the two chains so if you're looking for a fried chicken "taco," I'd suggest going to Taco Bell if you want something with some spice (and if it's being served in a restaurant near you!) and sticking with Popeyes if you prefer your meals a little milder. Is this the start of the Chicken Sandwich (Taco?) Wars 2.0????? I simply cannot keep up!!
